IAEE > CEM > New 2010 CEM Learning Program Curriculum

IAEE is pleased to announce the
New 2010 CEM Learning Program Curriculum!

The New Curriculum is:

  • More global
  • More flexible
  • More current

New Certification Requirements

Under the CEM certification requirements that take effect on 1 January 2010, a candidate must:

  • Successfully complete nine (9) of the eleven (11) CEM courses, including passing the corresponding nine (9) examinations within three (3) years. Click here for more Exam Process information.
  • Have at least three (3) years of full-time experience as a practitioner in exhibition and event management. Complete and submit a Work History Verification form.

New Certification Curriculum vs. Old Certification Curriculum

Below is the correlation of previous modules with the new modules. Candidates have the option of selecting the nine (9) out of eleven (11) courses offered that they feel would assist them most in their career.

*Those holding a current CMP designation can receive credit for this module by submitting the CMP certificate with a letter of request prior to completing the 9th and final course.

The Project Management module is no longer part of the CEM Learning Program. The principles of project management have been incorporated into the program throughout all the modules. The Developing an Exhibitor Prospectus module has been incorporated into the new Event Operations module.  Those CEM candidates who have already taken the Project Management or the Developing and Exhibitor Prospectus module will receive full credit.

What This Means for New Candidates

As a new candidate, there is still no formal application process required to begin the CEM Learning Program. To start your path toward the designation:

  • Enroll in your first course; On-Location or Online (Self-Paced will no longer be an offered format)
  • Complete and submit a Plan of Action form along with your first exam.

Your START DATE in the CEM Learning program is the date that you take and PASS your first CEM examination. You then have three (3) years from that date to compete all program requirements.

What This Means for Currently In-Progress CEM Candidates

You will not lose any of the courses that you have taken and all will count toward your CEM designation. You will have the same flexibility that the new candidates enjoy. You will select your remaining courses (to total 9) based on what you know will help you most in your career. The only stipulation is that no courses can be duplicated. For instance, based on the correlation chart above, Floor Plan Development is most closely related to Floor Plans & Layouts. If you have already taken Floor Plans & Layouts, you are not able to take that a second time for credit toward your designation. You would have to select a course that does not correlate with a course previously taken.

PLEASE NOTE: It is the registrant's responsibility to verify that they are signing up for the correct course. No refunds, transfers, or credits will be given in the case of a course duplication.

If the only course you have left is Project Management, then you are able to take any course that you have not already taken. For example, you could take Conference & Meeting Management Principles if you haven't already taken Basic Conference & Meeting Management or you could take Registration, Travel, and Housing Management as long as you haven't taken Housing & Transportation previously.

Due to the roll out of the courses, some are not offered until the second half of the year. If this causes any problems in regards to your 3 year completion deadline, please email the CEM Learning Program Coordinator (cem@iaee.com) and ask for information on filing for an extension. Please do this at least 60 to 90 days prior to your completion deadline.
