Conference and Meeting Management Principles

Meetings and meeting management, in a variety of formats such as educational programming, business and committee meetings, receptions, special events, room block, and sleeping room management, are all an integral part of most exhibitions and events.  Exhibition and event managers must possess a working knowledge of the activities and functions related to meetings and master the skills to address this different set of logistics than those related solely to the management of the exhibition.  

After completing this learning module, the student should be able to:

  • Identify the types of meetings that might occur during exhibitions and events
  • Define the various formats of educational sessions and/or programming
  • Understand basic adult learning concepts
  • Identify parameters for working with speakers
  • List the basic room set-ups used for meetings
  • Understand the basic requirements for ADA compliant and accessible meetings
  • Prepare Event Specification Guides and Function Set-Up Orders for meetings and events
  • Identify tips for making meetings and events more environmentally friendly
  • Describe basic needs regarding housing, travel and transportation related to meetings and events.
