New 2010 Recertification Requirements As of 1 January 2010, the new recertification requirements offer: • A longer recertification period • Additional educational choices • More stream-lined renewal dates that will be easier to keep up with Do these new requirements only apply to newly certified CEMs? No. All current CEMs regardless of their original certification date will be under these requirements. The only persons that are not under these requirements are those that are not current (i.e. past due or currently under an extension). How often do I need to recertify? Every three (3) years. How many hours of professional development education do I need to take within the 3 year time period? Twelve (12) hours of approved professional development education. What is professional development education or speaking credit is currently approved? Professional Development Credit • CEM Learning Modules (6 hours credit each) -- online or onlocation • CEM Advanced programs (6 hours credit each) • IAEE Senior Executives Roundtable (6 hours credit) • IAEE Sales Academy (12 hours of credit) • IAEE Robert L. Krakoff Future Leaders Institute (12 hours credit) • CMP designation achieved during the 3 year time frame (6 hours credit)* *The certificate or confirmation letter must be submitted with the recertification form. • Pre-approved education sessions provided by IAEE and other organizations that are a minimum of three (3) hours in length and directly correlate to the current CEM Body of Knowledge as outlined in the current CEM Blueprint. Must be pre-approved at least 30 days in advance. (see below) Speaking Credit Credit for speaking will be given for facilitating the following: • CEM Learning Program Module (6 hours each) -- online or onlocation • CEM Advanced Institute (6 hours each) • Senior Executives Roundtable (6 hours) • Future Leaders Institute (12 hours) • Facilitating professional development programming by IAEE and other organizations on topics directly correlating to the current CEM Blueprint. For the primary speaker or moderator, credit will be granted on an hour for hour basis (3 hour minimum per day, 6 hour maximum per day). Must be pre-approved at least 30 days in advance. (See form below.) Do I have to sit for the exam if I am recertifying? As a recertifying CEM, you are exempt from the examination requirement for the CEM Learning Program courses and need not take the written examination following the program. Click on the link to find a complete list of *NEW & REDESIGNED* 2010 CEM Courses. I am interested in a course but it’s not on the above list of pre-approved courses? How can I have it apply toward my recertification? It is your responsibility to research whether an outside professional development program aligns with the current CEM Body of Knowledge and to submit the course for approval to IAEE at least 30 days in advance of the course using the Recertification Course Approval Application form.
Can I apply past (2009 and prior) non-CEM courses toward my CEM recertification? No. This change is only moving forward. Any education outside of CEM courses taken prior to 2010 will not count toward the renewal of your CEM designation. What if I am 61 years or older? Any CEM in good standing that reaches the age of 61 will not be obligated to recertify. These CEMs will be categorized as Emeritus CEMs. Please contact the CEM Learning Program Coordinator once you have reached this status. What is my new renewal date? All renewal months/dates have been changed to 31 December. If you are in the process of renewing (i.e. your current renewal year is in 2010 or 2011) then one year has been added to your current renewal date. If your renewal date has already passed (was in 2009) and you completed your required course to meet your recertification then your renewal date is now 31 December 2012. What if I didn’t meet my recertification requirement in 2009 or before? You will need to contact the CEM Learning Program Coordinator as these new benefits apply only to current CEMs who are in good standing. Also, please be sure to not use the designation until you have a response from the CEM Commission. What if I took a class in 2009 because I was originally due to recertify in 2010? If you were due to recertify in 2010, your renewal date is now set in 2011. If you have already completed a CEM course in 2009 prior to this notification, it will count as 6 hours toward your recertification requirement of 12 total hours. You will need to be sure to submit the information for that course when you submit your recertification application. This only applies for those set to now recertify in 2011 and only with CEM courses taken in 2009. I’ve taken my 12 pre-approved professional development education hours – now what? Once you have completed the 12-hour requirement, you will need to complete and submit the CEM Recertification Application. It is due on or before 31 October of the year you are due. There will be a $50.00 (USD) fee for any recertification forms that are received after 31 October. Regardless of whether or not the completed classes are CEM courses, an application must be submitted in order to get credit for recertification. What if I take 4 CEM courses over the next three years? Does that mean I would be recertified for 6 years instead of 3? No. Two CEM courses will recertify you for another three years since they count as 6 hours each. Any additional course work above and beyond the 12 hour requirement during your 3 year recertification period is considered 'extra' -- and although applauded -- will not count for an additional 3 year recertification period. It can't be 'paid-forward' in that manner. What happens if I don’t meet my recertification requirement? You will be dropped from the program and no longer be able to use the designation. Questions?
