SIDE BAR
Where have you been EXPO-SAY?
No, it wasn't something wrong with your Inbox or your Internet Service
Provider, there was an unplanned two issue hiatus but we're back (with
our sincere apologies)!
Just in time too.
In addition to some overdue thanks there is some exciting info on that
upcoming summer outing you love so much.
Oh, and a little something you might have heard about... the Javits
expansion!
Dr. Expo, advice columnist
Dr. Expo hasn't received enough of a response (DR.EXPO@metro-expo.com)
to warrant his own advice column just yet. It's just as well though, you
can learn through a much better forum... your chapter meetings.
In addition to the invaluable learning experiences provided at these
luncheons, you also get lunch - usually a home cooked meal (hey, they
take place in a hotel, and a hotel is somebodys home, even if it
is only for a day or two, right?)...
IAEM Event Photos
You can still sign up to receive access to IAEM event pictures. There
are way too many to put into this newsletter but if you'd like to see
how you looked at that IAEM party or see a picture of that cute vendor
you met, email
IAEMphotos@metro-expo.com with "SUBSCRIBE" in the subject line to
receive an invitation to view photos as they are added.
You will be able to download or order prints of your favorite ones!
If you happened to take pictures and want to submit them, you may send
them to the same address.

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
|
| |
By
Jack Buttine, John Buttine, Inc.
2004 is already off to a great start. Your Chapter Board of
Directors has big plans and - like you - goals to make!
Our major goal this year is to provide Grassroots Support for the
expansion of the Javits Center. You will see a number of initiatives
and there will be plenty of opportunities to be involved. We will
line up with other hospitality industry groups in New York to
demonstrate the value of tradeshows to the New York City and State.
Any ideas that you have will be appreciated. Please email or call
me. I will get back to you promptly.
We want to be part of the solution. Get involved and you will like
the result.
Something new this year is our use of Cvent to let you know of
upcoming events. Cvent is a terrific system. The way it works is
Cvent emails you an invitation. You get a good description of the
education session or special event. If you can attend, you pay by
credit card - or, request to pay by check at the door, and Cvent
sends you an acknowledgement and reminder.
This is the same system that many show managers use and all report
it is well received and helps build attendance.
Your Education Committee got off to a great start with their
February session that gave us a peek at the future of tradeshows.
Dan Spigner and his committee have much in store!
Best wishes for continued success this year and I look forward to
another year as your Chairman.

Special Thanks | Holiday Party Sponsors
|
| |
By
Larry Grossenbacher, Metropolitan Exposition Services, Inc
As usual, the Holiday Event was a huge success. And as usual, the
end of the evening came about too quickly. Some stayed around and
found another place to hang out, others roamed the streets of New
York spreading holiday cheer while others went home to be with a
loved one. Rumor has it there is still an attendee or two that are
still at the Marriott going from party to party trying to find one
as good as ours! I think they may have to wait until December for us
to return!
We owe our thanks and gratitude to the event sponsors: The New York
Marriott Marquis
(Chairman's Circle Sponsor)
Einzig Photographers
Freeman Decorating Company
KVL Audio/Visual
NYC&Company
And to the raffle prize sponsors:

And a special thanks to those whose blood sweat and tears made so
much possible throughout the 2003 calendar year: your very own
NYIAEM Special Events Committee for 2003:
Tony Orlando, GLM, Co-chair;
Donna Venito, Co- chair;
Phil Hobson, Phoenix Business Logistics;
Nancy Buttine, Buttine Tradeshow Insurance, Inc.;

all the raffle winners as well!
Below, you will find the "Wall of Fame". Look at the picture. If
you're lucky enough to have found yourself, you also are lucky
enough to go on a mission. Look what color background your picture
has. If you see someone you don't know that shares that color
background, try to find them at the next IAEM function and introduce
yourself!

The Javits Expansion!
|
| |
Supersizing Isn't Just For Fries Anymore
By Larry Grossenbacher, Metropolitan Exposition Services, Inc.
Do you recognize this picture? It is a picture of the Javits Center
construction. Well, you may very well get to experience more Javits
Center construction in the not-so-distant future.
We're living in an exciting time for New York. The possibility of
the Olympics, the Jets moving to Manhattan, oh and the Javits Center
expanding!
These announcements were made recently at The Jacob K. Javits
Convention Center with a slew of heavyweights including the Mayor
and Governor of New York.
Also in attendance were celebrities such as Jets Coach Herm Edwards
and Jets Quarterback Chad Pennington. The list of heavyweights in
attendance is too long to mention as this type of expansion affects
us all.
You can find all the details, stats and plans on the link below.

website.

LEND US YOUR TALENTS -- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
|
| |
Our Chapter needs more talented volunteers to help us create a
stronger Chapter. We rely on the contributions and dedication of our
industry's professionals to lend their expertise and knowledge.
Our committees make it all happen. Every program you attend, every
service you use from NY-IAEM, is provided by volunteers.
As a member of a committee, you will not be asked to "do it all
alone." Committee members share responsibilities, and often enjoy
themselves while doing so. Our Chapter has seven committees that
keep things going for all the members. Why not commit a few hours to
a committee that matches your skills or interests?
The committees are Awards, Education, Special Events, Host,
Membership, Newsletter and Public Relations.
Please contact Tony Lee at 914-421-3222 or
tony_lee@glmsh ows.com
for additional information. Don't let another day go by without
contributing your talent to our Chapter.
Click here for an online form you can print and fill-out.
