Extension Request

If certification is not earned (or expected to be earned) within three years of the candidates start date, an extension may be requested to complete the requirements as long as the candidate has three or less courses to complete and the request for extension is made prior to the expiration date.  If  both of the criteria are met, the candidate may request an extension following the below requirements:

  • Request should be made in writing on company letterhead (formal business letter) to the attention of the CEM Commission
  • Request should explain why certification was not completed in three years
  • Request should include detailed plan of action on how certification will be completed (amount of time needed to complete; specific dates/course names if available)

All remaining requirements must be completed within the grace period that is determined by the CEM Commission. If courses are not completed within the determined grace period, the candidate will lose credit for each successfully passed exam at its three-year anniversary date and must re-test on exams passed more than 3 years from that date.

Once the request is received, IAEE will present it to the CEM Commission for their approval and send the candidate an email with their decision within 2 weeks.

Please send all extension requests to cem@iaee.com. Questions? Call 972-687-9224 or email cem@iaee.com.
