DALLAS – Registration is now open for the International Association of Exhibitions and Events™ (IAEE) Krakoff Leadership Institute (KLI) to be held 7-9 August 2016 at The Waterfront Beach Resort, A Hilton Hotel in Huntington Beach, Calif. The program is open to IAEE members interested in enhancing their strategic skills, and broadening their knowledge as current and future leaders in the exhibitions and events industry.
Each year IAEE selects a KLI “Legend of the Industry” whose contributions, innovation and leadership have been truly unique and remarkable. An informal setting then allows each KLI participant face-to-face interaction with this industry leader. This year’s “Legend” is Darlene Gudea, President of Trade Show Executive Media Group. Gudea has been at the helm of two leading trade show publications during her 38-year career. She began her career in 1978 as Managing Editor of Tradeshow Week, published by Reed Business Information in Los Angeles, Calif. She rose through the ranks to become VP/Publisher & Editor-in-Chief in December 1986, a position she held for 14 years.
In March 2000, she joined Advanstar Communications as Group Publisher of the CRM Group. In September 2001, she was named Director of the Magazine Division of Hispanic Business in Santa Barbara, Calif., overseeing its editorial, research, circulation, sales and production departments. Gudea joined Trade Show Executive magazine in September 2002 as Publisher & Editor, expanded the bi-monthly publication to 12 issues per year; launched four directories, a website and E-clips Breaking News; and added an event division to launch the Gold 100 Awards & Summit; Fastest 50 Awards & Summit; and Global Connect. She was promoted to President of Trade Show Executive Media Group in 2009.
Gudea is active in many trade show industry associations including IAEE; Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR); Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA); and Exhibit Designer & Producers Association Foundation (EDPA). She has been awarded distinguished service awards from IAEE and TSEA, and has directed publications that have won more than 56 journalism awards for excellence in design and writing.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be named IAEE’s Legend of the Industry for 2016,” said Gudea. “Bob Krakoff was my mentor, and he deeply impacted my personal and professional development. He challenged my ideas, not only to lead me into new ways of thinking, but also to make sure I had strong convictions and well thought-out strategies. He immersed me in situations that were way over my head which gave me the opportunity to make mistakes and grow. I am grateful for his leadership which inspires me to this day, and I am so honored to receive this award in the name of one of our industry’s greatest business minds.”
Jerry Magar, Founding Partner of People Systems Consulting, will be facilitating this year’s KLI program. Magar has more than 25 years of experience in change leadership, performance management, leadership development and executive team coaching. He will combine his educational background in communication, organization development and psychology with his hands-on business experience in marketing and business development to provide real-world application in a dynamic, group-oriented setting.
Graduates of the 2016 Krakoff Leadership Institute will be recognized at Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held 6-8 December 2016 in Anaheim, Calif. IAEE extends a special thank you to the title sponsor of this year’s Krakoff Leadership Institute, Synchronicities – a three city partnership between Anaheim, Baltimore and San Antonio.
