Show Management Implements Mobile Event Technology for Crisis Management

EXPOCAD(r) by A.C.T. originated and supplies location-based products to the events industry. The Aurora, Illinois-based company provides tools for floor plan sales and operations management, online eMarketing, exhibit space contracting and payment, exhibitor eMarketing and sales, on-site electronic space assignments, general service contractors and safety, and security professionals.

The National Cattleman’s Beef Association (NCBA) implemented EXPOCAD®’s ELI™ (Emergency Location Interactive) to help them manage any crises that may arise on show site. ELI™ is a location-based technology tool that allows show management, attendees and exhibitors to pinpoint any security, medical or operational issue using their smartphone.

At their show, NCBA had 7.4 acres of exhibit space, 372 exhibiting companies and 8,913 attendees with 48 states and 13 countries being represented. With a large show, security is a major concern for show management.

ELI™ allows show staff to communicate with one another on where, when and how a crisis or situation needs to be managed. When implemented, ELI™ will send out the crisis or situation in a text message to the appropriate team members with a bulls-eye target on the location that is time stamped, along with any additional text. Once notified, the appropriated team member(s) or First Responders can attend to the situation immediately and effectively. Sample notification or emergency messages included were Medical Emergency, Bomb, and Crowd Control.

As events grow and change, ELI™ will adapt with new enhancements and updates. Therefore, every event is different and has different needs in which E L I™ will be used in numerous ways. NCBA along with many other conventions rank high in social media engagements. NCBA’s #cattlecon19 had 6,400 mentions with 50,900 social media engagements. Their Facebook and Twitter had 879,210 and 282,900 total impressions respectively. As a shows social media usage continues to increase, so should their safety and security and all who participate. Show organizers can use ELI™ to exercise their duty to protect and provide security to attendees and exhibitors.
