How did you start your career in this industry?
I wanted to be a corporate fitness director. I interned at the Association for Fitness in Business. This turned into my first job running their tradeshow. It was a huge eye-opening experience to learn about tradeshows. I have toggled between wellness and events my entire career and am finally bringing the two together. A career goal for me.
How has IAEE shaped your career?
My professional network has made my career and I believe my industry memberships have made that happen.
What advice would you give to a new member?
NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK. Get to know your fellow members. Ask questions and know you are not alone.
Fun fact about you – What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I was in a bad car accident when I was at IU. The doctors told me I could never run again or have kids. Well, I have 2 kids and have run 5 half marathons and a triathlon. Don’t hold yourself back. “Keep trying and some day you will succeed” is my motto
What do you like most about your chapter?
Chapter engagement is key to the networking piece. Engage, volunteer and make new connections.
What community service projects do you like to be involved in? Why?
I love giving back. When I was with the Vancouver CVB (for 16 years), I created a program called #Vangiving. It was designed to include a give back component of our sales activations. One year we collected over 60,000 diapers for a charity from our clients.
What would you say is the #1 IAEE member benefit?
An instant network of professionals
What do you like most about Expo! Expo!?
I have not been and look forward to attending
How do you use CEIR research, and what reports have you downloaded?
I am a research geek and love the work that CEIR does.
Without using a specific company name, what new technology on the market can you just not live without? Why?
Fitness tracker. It keeps me focused on staying on track
