How did you start your career in this industry?
I come from a family in the events industry. My parents met at Shepard Expositions (longer ago than they would like to admit), and my grandmother was a meeting planner. One of my uncles worked for the Georgia World Congress Center and Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau. Another uncle works for Freeman and another works with us at RPMxpo. Safe to say the events industry is in my blood!
What advice would you give to a new member?
I would say to just dive in. I know it is easier said than done but it is really the best way to get the full experience of being a member. Find someone you already know or a board member, then just go from there.
Fun fact about you – What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I played football in college at Stetson University in Deland, FL. It was a lot of fun, and I met my best friends for life on the team. It taught me a lot about teamwork and discipline, which I incorporate in my career today. The most important lesson was to always be on time!
What do you like most about your chapter?
The southern hospitality! The Southeastern chapter is very inclusive and always excited to have new members. We encourage anyone interested to come to an event and meet new people.
What would you say is the #1 IAEE member benefit?
The people! Our industry focuses on bringing people together and that is what IAEE is best at in my opinion. I have made countless connections and friends that have advanced my career. I would recommend anyone in the industry to go to an event at their local chapter to test the waters and you will never look back.
