By Patrick McCormick, CEM  | National Account Manager | Visit Atlantic City

Earning the Certified in Exhibition Management® (CEM) designation has been a defining achievement in my professional journey, especially in my role as National Account Director for Visit Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Convention Center. This credential not only deepened my expertise in the exhibitions and events industry, but it also strengthened my ability to strategically support our clients, partners, and stakeholders with a higher level of insight, professionalism, and service. The CEM has given me a more comprehensive understanding of what organizers and exhibitors truly need for successful events, and that knowledge has become a powerful asset in promoting Atlantic City as a world-class meetings and conventions destination.

The CEM coursework provided practical, real-world tools in key areas such as event operations, marketing, budgeting, risk management, and floor plan design. Applying these principles has allowed me to communicate more effectively with planners, anticipate potential challenges before they arise, and offer solutions that align with their goals. Whether I’m working with a first-time exhibitor or a seasoned trade show veteran, I’m able to demonstrate a deep understanding of their business, which fosters trust and builds long-lasting relationships.

From a destination marketing perspective, the CEM has elevated the way I represent Atlantic City. It has equipped me with the knowledge to showcase not only the benefits of our venues and infrastructure but also how we align with broader event strategies. I can speak the language of exhibition professionals and provide guidance that positions our city and our facilities as collaborative partners in their success. As a result, I’ve seen an increase in the number of meaningful conversations that convert into bookings and repeat business.

In addition, earning this designation has expanded my network within the global exhibitions and events community. I’ve connected with like-minded professionals who are equally passionate about our industry’s future. These relationships continue to offer inspiration, best practices, and shared insights that I bring back to my work in Atlantic City. This ongoing professional development ensures I stay ahead of trends and innovations that keep our destination competitive.

Ultimately, the CEM designation has reinforced my commitment to excellence in all aspects of my work. It’s a symbol of credibility that clients recognize and respect, and it has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I take pride in bringing that expertise to every interaction, and I’m grateful for how this journey has enhanced my ability to contribute meaningfully to the success of my clients and the continued growth of Atlantic City as a premier convention destination.
