Why is it important to maintain the CEM designation?

It is important to continue learning! You need to stay up to date on best practices, policies and trends that affect the industry. Also, it is important for clients to feel confident in the professionals managing their events and to have the assurance that the professionals in charge of their exhibitions have completed the rigorous work required to achieve and maintain the CEM designation.

What advice would you give to an aspiring individual who wants to apply for the CEM program?

I would highly recommend it! No matter where you are in your level of experience, you will learn new things to help you improve your shows, gain new ideas from your classmates and get access to many resources. The CEM courses provide a comprehensive overview in many subject areas.

How did you start your career in this industry?

Many years ago, a staffing agency found an entry-level position for me in the meetings department of a nonprofit association. I admit that I knew very little about the industry or nonprofits, but I soon discovered that I loved it.

What did you like most about the CEM Learning Program?

I liked the in-person courses. I enjoyed the interaction with the instructor, group projects, class discussions and being exposed to different perspectives and ideas from both suppliers and planners. Also, I liked all the resources and helpful templates that were available.
