How has the CEM designation helped in your career?
I’m still relatively green in my exhibition industry career, but the CEM certification has helped provide me a sturdy foundation from which I can continue to grow.
Why is it important to maintain the CEM designation?
As the world changes, the industry changes. I hope to continue with my CEM designation to explore the new challenges and opportunities within the industry.
What made you want to obtain your CEM designation?
Even prior to joining the exhibition industry, I’ve always specialized in Operations. I thought this a great opportunity to learn more of the facets of the industry.
What advice would you give to an aspiring individual who wants to apply for the CEM program?
My advice – find a good time window and go for it.
How did you start your career in this industry?
I worked for five years in the sports marketing and events industry, managing endurance races and sporting events all over the US and Caribbean. I transitioned to the Exhibition Industry five years ago and am thrilled for the new challenge.
How have you made a difference with your show or with working with a client by applying the knowledge you gained by obtaining your CEM designation?
The most recent example has been in housing contracts for an international show. The contract terms are quite simple, so we’re exploring adding several clauses typically seen in US housing contracts.
What was it that you did or implemented right after obtaining your CEM?
Unfortunately, not much thus far. We’re still biding time to get live events up and running!
What did you like most about the CEM Learning Program?
In the era of the pandemic, it was really refreshing to have online education to look forward to for the past 15 months. I took my final six courses online over the last year plus – continuing my education and earning my CEM while WFH was a great silver lining.
Fun fact about you – What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
My wife and I are armature fixer-uppers. Outside work hours, we’re currently renovating our third house and have been living/working in a demo zone for the entire WFH!
