How has the CEM designation helped in your career?
First: Most update about the industrial news; Secondly: Learn from the peers; Most importantly,I trust in lifelong study especially in exhibition industry.
Why is it important to maintain the CEM designation?
As I know in Singapore CEM designation it’s a MUST certificate for some big exhibition & events groups. For it is very important MICE destination. As in China the exhibition industry is developing very fast and deal to the pandemic: a disaster for the industry, great lack of professionals will or already occurred.
What made you want to obtain your CEM designation?
It was in 2007, when I have been in the exhibition industry for 10 years, I decided to be more professional in my career and know more about “The Art of the Show”—how to work smartly and run a show better. I searched on the internet it is in Singapore where I can flight and stay easily and not expensive at all for the CEM courses. Networking, discussions, Cultural exchange and inside stories…It proved that it is the right decision I made for my career life.
What advice would you give to an aspiring individual who wants to apply for the CEM program?
I can flight from China to Singapore for the whole CEM courses and from China to New Orleans for Expo Expo. I think it is much easier for the locals to make the decision and take actions. Graduates or fresh for the exhibition industry should learn as early as possible for you can know more or learn more from the professional when you are young and energetic.
How did you start your career in this industry?
It was in 2007 I got an offer from a local exhibition company. It helped the Chinese exhibitors to participate exhibitions outside China. This kind of tertiary industry is very competitive in manufacturing city like this: lot of factories here need help for participations services to Malaysia, Vietnam,India,USA,Brazil,Germany,Russia.etc. I obtained the skills to communicate with people around world, studied the rules of exhibitions in different countries and visited many countries. It is 10 years later I know there is a systematic course for exhibition-CEM.
How have you made a difference with your show or with working with a client by applying the knowledge you gained by obtaining your CEM designation?
Too many examples, I would love to mention one of them: On Booth/Stand sales, after studying and obtaining CEM, I know more skills from the book and peers such as how to solve the problem of this kind:“Have you heard from your sales rep?” “They only call me when they want money” Monthly/Weekend personalized email or now in China every morning wechat greetings would be very good solutions to make the exhibitors feel we are not only concern about money/ payment from them, we also care about their ROI and are always working hard on it.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I have a plan to meet my American teacher in US in the near future, I hope. when I was teenager he taught us Carpenters “ Top of the World” by cassette. It is fun and can’t forget the song forever. For decades, it is sure it’s a very good song, for it is our memories also.
