Nominating Committee

The purpose of this committee is to identify qualified, prospective leaders to serve as IAEE officers and directors. The committee prepares a slate of nominations for each office and directorship; this slate shall be presented to the membership for vote (at least 90 days before the annual meeting). The IAEE Bylaws requires that the immediate past chairperson serves as chairperson of the committee. The current chairperson may not serve or participate on the committee.

The nominations process is always available through the website and a “Call for Volunteers” may be considered based on vacancies and quality of applicants held over from the previous year. There are many opportunities for members to become involved on IAEE committees and on IAEE chapter committees and boards. It is through volunteer leadership on IAEE committees and engaging at the chapter level that one gets noticed and recognized for consideration as a candidate for the IAEE board.

Nominees must be individuals who are recognized as thought leaders of the industry with demonstrated leadership skills, experience and a passion for the exhibitions and events industry. In addition to leadership and skills experience, the committee will consider a variety of other factors, including DE&I, to ensure the board is representative of the membership, as well as ensuring the board overall has the skill set necessary for the business environment at the time and for the current strategic plan. Attributes include strategic viewpoint, global perspective, collaborative, objectivity and a commitment to diversity.

Each year, there are a variety of considerations to ensure an appropriate balance when developing the slate of nominees including, but not limited to:

  • Demographics/DE&I (gender/gender identity, cultural/ethnic diversity, age, etc.)
    • Position level within company.
    • Global representation/perspective
    • Balance of association versus independent organizers, both large shows and small shows
    • Balance of associate members (general service and specialty contractors, hotels, venues, etc.)

There are many good sources for identifying candidates, including:
• The IAEE staff who works closely with members on committees and task forces.
• Board liaisons to committees
• Chapter leaders
• Past chairpersons of the board
• Participation at IAEE events

Charge to the Nominating Committee for FY 2024:

  1. Review the Guidelines for Nominees each year for any changes.
  2. Create a slate of nominees for board consideration.
