Building Your Career in Hospitality, Tourism & Events

The hospitality, tourism and events industry did not begin with today’s hotels, convention centers, exhibitions or destination organizations. Generations of Black workers, entrepreneurs, travelers and industry leaders helped build the infrastructure, businesses and experiences that shaped the industry we know today.

In this student-focused session, Greg DeShields will draw from NCBMP’s George Turner Scholars curriculum to connect that history to the future. Students will explore significant Black contributions to hospitality and tourism, discover the breadth of career opportunities across the meetings and events ecosystem, and consider how their own skills, education and interests can translate into meaningful industry careers.
