IAEE Bestows Five Honorary CEM Designations

Individuals Recognized During Expo! Expo!
The International Association of Exhibitions and Events® (IAEE) bestowed the designation of “Honorary CEM” upon five exhibitions and events professionals who have shown extraordinary support for IAEE’s CEM Learning Program. In the program’s history, only two individuals – Patricia Farias Barlow, CEM and Bob Dallmeyer, CEM – have received the honorary CEM designation. The latest honorary CEMs were recognized during the Opening General Session at Expo! Expo! IAEE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition 2019 held 3-5 December in Las Vegas, Nev.
“The distinguished exhibitions and events professionals announced today have made such profound and enduring contributions to the industry, that the CEM Commission felt compelled to pay its respect through the honorary CEM designation,” noted CEM Commission Chairperson Michelle Monteferrante, CEM, Vice President, Corporate Client Solutions for Freeman. “We are honored to have them as part of the CEM Learning Program.”
Cathy Breden, CMP, CAE, CEM is IAEE’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and also serves as CEO for the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR). Breden has been with IAEE for more than 20 years and is an adjunct faculty member at Richland Community College in Dallas, Texas. She is a frequent presenter on the areas of exhibition industry trends and the power of exhibitions in face-to-face marketing. Breden has been instrumental in the ongoing production of The Art of the Show textbook that serves as the body of knowledge for the CEM Learning Program and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor within the Events Industry Council Competency Model.
The following honorees have been instrumental in growing the CEM Learning Program in Singapore, as well as internationally. They have been teaching in Singapore before the CEM Faculty requirement was established, have left a lasting impact in our industry and have trained countless numbers of students.
Jimmy Lau, CEM has more than 40 years of experience in the MICE industry, leading Experia Events in Singapore since its establishment in 2005, until his retirement in 2014. In addition to teaching CEM courses, he teaches SACEOS’s Professional Exhibition Management (PEM) course.
Edward Liu, PBM, MBA, FMI, CEM has been teaching CEM courses for several years and is considered an iconic and respected educator, leader and industry professional at IAEE and in Asia. He was inducted into the Events Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders in 2018 and served as the first elected president of the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS), IAEE’s Singapore licensee.
Chandran Nair, CEM has been in the industry for more than 35 years. He is General Manager of SingEx Holdings Pte Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings, an investment company owned by the Government of Singapore. He has served on the “Trade Fairs & Trade Mart” Committee of the World Trade Centers Association; the UFI Education Committee; and the Executive Committee of the Singapore Association of Conventions and Exhibitions Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS) as its Vice President and Chairman, Continuing Education and Training.
Lloyd Tan, CEM has dedicated more than 35 years to the industry. He is currently the Vice President of Education & Development of Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS). He is also a member of the Academic Advisory Committee of Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
